Poland transport sectors see record summer passenger numbers

Poland is experiencing record-breaking summer travel demand across both aviation and rail sectors.

Katowice Airport reached a historic milestone in July 2026, handling 1,030,013 passengers in a single month. This represents a 7.39% increase compared to the same period last year. The growth was driven by regular flights, which saw a 14.19% year-over-year increase, and charter flights, which grew by 3.29%. Total passenger numbers from January to July 2026 reached 4,255,164, with annual projections reaching approximately 7.9 million.

Simultaneously, PKP Intercity reported a record mid-summer period. In June and July 2026, the rail operator served 17.8 million passengers. July alone saw nearly 9.5 million travelers, a 9% increase from the previous year. To accommodate the surge, the carrier increased its summer schedule to approximately 560 daily connections, adding 46 more trains than the previous summer season.
