Poland unemployment and pre-retirement benefit regulations

In Poland, specific regulations govern unemployment benefits and pre-retirement benefits provided by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS).

Unemployment benefits are structured based on work seniority. Individuals with less than five years of experience receive 80 percent of the base amount, while those with five to 20 years receive the full rate. Those with over 20 years of seniority can receive 120 percent of the base amount, totaling 2,140.70 PLN. To qualify, a person must have been employed for at least 365 days within the 18 months preceding registration. The standard benefit period is 180 days, though it can be extended to 365 days under specific circumstances, such as being a single parent or being over 50 years old.

Pre-retirement benefits are available to individuals who have received unemployment benefits for at least 180 days and meet specific age and seniority criteria. For example, women must have at least 20 years of contributions and be at least 56 years old, while men require 25 years of contributions and be at least 61 years old. Other conditions include the termination of employment due to employer insolvency or liquidation.
