Poland unemployment rises as job offers fall and youth joblessness spikes

Poland's labour market showed mixed signals in July. In Giżycko County, the number of registered unemployed fell to 1,688, continuing a four‑month downward trend, with 160 new registrations and 175 removals, most of whom (69.1%) found work. Nationally, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy reported that the total number of registered unemployed increased to 907,300, a rise of 76,500 (9.2% year‑on‑year) and pushing the unemployment rate to 5.9%.

Job vacancies also declined sharply, with employers posting 17.6% fewer positions compared with July last year. Young people were hardest hit: the unemployment rate for those aged 15‑24 reached 12.5%, more than four times the overall rate. Analysts warned that automation could affect up to 3.68 million workers, especially in office roles, and highlighted concerns about the current government's economic policies, citing investment uncertainties involving firms such as Intel and EDF.

The data underscore growing pressures on Poland's job market, particularly for youth and sectors vulnerable to technological change.
