Poland university visa scandal exposes immigration loopholes
Investigations into the Collegium Humanum scandal have revealed a widespread scheme involving Polish private universities that exploited legal loopholes to facilitate illegal migration and employment.
Under this system, candidates—primarily from Africa and Asia—enrolled in universities to obtain enrollment documents. These documents were used to secure student visas, which granted legal residence in Poland and the ability to travel within the Schengen Area and work. For a monthly fee of several hundred PLN, individuals could use these studies as a formal pretext to enter Europe.
While some students paid tuition without attending classes, the issue was most severe in institutions where oversight of student participation was nonexistent. In some cases, small universities reportedly engaged in intentional fraud by issuing documentation for fictitious students without providing any actual education, serving as a significant revenue stream for the institutions involved.
