Poland updates water quality regulations and monitoring
Poland is implementing measures to enhance water quality monitoring and public health safety. In observance of World Water Monitoring Day, the State Sanitary Inspection continues to oversee water safety across 8,458 supply zones, which serve approximately 35 million residents. Monitoring involves microbiological, physicochemical, and organoleptic analyses to ensure drinking water meets safety standards.
Concurrently, the Polish Senate is scheduled to discuss an amendment to the Water Law on September 23 and 24. This legislative update aims to align national regulations with European Union standards regarding water quality in bathing areas. The amendment seeks to clarify criteria for high-density bathing areas and improve information exchange between institutions to identify pollution sources more rapidly.
Additionally, the Senate Health Committee will address health prevention programs under the ‘Prevention – pass it on’ initiative, a campaign launched by the Ministry of Health to increase participation in free screening tests.
