Poland: Variable Message Signs carry same legal weight as traditional signs
Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Polish roads carry the same legal weight as traditional metal road signs. According to the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), these electronic displays are not merely informational but are mandatory vertical signs that drivers must strictly obey.
These signs, which include both prismatic types (PVMS) and LED-based VMS, can issue commands, prohibitions, and warnings. They are used to regulate driver behavior, such as mandating specific directions or prohibiting U-turns, and to provide real-time information regarding road conditions, hazards, and nearby attractions.
