Poland veterinary officials warn of high bird flu risk

Veterinary doctors in the Środa Śląska and Zgierz districts of Poland have issued warnings regarding a period of increased risk for avian influenza and Newcastle disease. These highly infectious viral diseases are characterized by high mortality rates in poultry and symptoms such as respiratory distress, neurological issues, and sudden drops in egg production.

Authorities are urging poultry farmers to strictly adhere to biosecurity protocols to minimize infection risks. Recommended measures include isolating poultry from wild birds, securing feed and bedding from contamination, and using disinfection mats for footwear and vehicles. Farmers are instructed to purchase poultry only from supervised sources and to immediately report any unusual symptoms, such as increased mortality or neurological signs, to veterinary inspectors.
