Poland vodka production falls nearly 19% amid shifting consumer trends
In the first half of 2026, the production of clear vodka in Poland decreased by nearly 19%, accompanied by a consumption drop of over 20%. This decline is attributed to shifting consumer preferences toward healthier lifestyles and a preference for other beverages such as wine and beer. The growth in low-alcohol products and 0.0% alcohol segments has not been sufficient to offset the losses in the clear vodka category.
As a result, excise tax revenues from spirits are under pressure. The Ministry of Finance reported a 13% year-on-year decrease in excise tax revenue from spirituous beverages between January and May 2026, despite higher tax rates. Industry experts estimate that if current trends persist, total excise revenues could be more than 1 billion PLN lower by the end of the year compared to 2025.
