Poland faces extreme temperature swings from frost to heatwaves

Poland is experiencing extreme temperature fluctuations as the beginning of meteorological autumn brings a significant thermal shock. Early in the week, some southern regions reported ground frosts as low as -4°C to -8°C in valleys and basins.

However, this cold spell is being rapidly replaced by a surge of warm air from southern Europe. Temperatures are expected to soar, with some areas reaching between 30°C and 36°C by mid-week. This heatwave will create sharp regional contrasts, with some western areas remaining much cooler than the south and southeast.

Following the peak heat, a cold atmospheric front is forecasted to move through the country, bringing increased cloud cover, rain, and potential thunderstorms with wind gusts reaching up to 65 km/h. Long-term forecasts from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management suggest that September will remain warmer than the historical average, though the period will be characterized by high variability.
