Poland weather alerts issued for storms and heatwaves

Poland is facing highly dynamic weather conditions as the end of August and beginning of September transition into autumn. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued several first-degree warnings for multiple regions, including Podkarpacie, Łódź, and parts of Małopolska and Pomerania.

Forecasts indicate a period of severe weather characterized by thunderstorms, heavy rainfall (up to 30 mm), and strong wind gusts reaching between 70 and 90 km/h. Some areas may also experience hail. While much of the country will see a cooling trend with temperatures dropping to between 18°C and 25°C, the southeastern regions will experience significant heat, with temperatures potentially reaching 30°C to 33°C.

Looking further ahead, a brief return of summer-like heat is expected around September 7, with temperatures in southern Poland potentially hitting 32°C. However, this will be followed by a more sustained period of cooler, autumnal weather in mid-September, with daytime highs dropping to 10-15°C and the possibility of ground frosts.

On a broader European scale, an African heatwave is also expected to impact the continent, with extreme temperatures exceeding 40°C predicted for parts of Spain and southern France.
