Poland: Shifting trends in wedding customs and religious practices

Recent sociological data and personal accounts highlight shifting social and religious trends in Poland. A study conducted by UCE Research and Briju regarding wedding gift trends for 2026 indicates that the amount of money given in envelopes is heavily dependent on the closeness of the relationship to the couple. For immediate family and witnesses, the most common amounts range from 751 to 1000 PLN, with over 37% suggesting amounts exceeding 1000 PLN. In contrast, friends and distant relatives are expected to give between 201 and 500 PLN.

In religious life, theologian Grzegorz Strzelczyk notes a decline in the number of people attending confession compared to thirty years ago, citing secularization and a loss of trust in the Church as key factors. However, he observes that the quality of confession has changed; rather than performing a mechanical ritual, modern penitents often seek deeper spiritual reflection and guidance.

In entertainment and media, the dating program ‘Żona dla Polaka’ is expanding its reach, with the upcoming season focusing on participants in Australia. Additionally, influencer and activist Martyna Kaczmarek recently celebrated her wedding, emphasizing her commitment to body positivity and social activism.
