Poland announces speedway roster for Team Grand Prix final in Warsaw
The Polish national speedway team has finalized its roster for the Speedway Team Grand Prix final, scheduled for Saturday at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw. Manager Stanisław Chomski has selected Bartosz Zmarzlik, Maciej Janowski, Dominik Kubera, and Patryk Dudek as the primary riders, with Kacper Woryna serving as the reserve. Poland will compete in red helmets to defend their 2023 title against Great Britain, Denmark, and Australia.
In separate competition news, the Polish U24 team secured the gold medal at the European U24 Team Championships in Grudziądz. The victory was clinched in a dramatic final race where Maksymilian Pawełczak defeated Denmark's Villads Nagel. Mateusz Cierniak was a standout performer, scoring 14 points and marking what he described as a “last dance” in the U24 category before aging out of the competition.
Additionally, in domestic league action, Abramczyk Polonia Bydgoszcz secured a 45:45 draw against Orzeł Łódź in the first match of the Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga play-off semi-finals. The match was marked by high tension and a serious accident involving Villads Nagel, who was hospitalized with a broken arm.
