Poland: Woman faces prison after keeping 50,000 euros found in discarded furniture

A woman in Warzymice, Poland, faces potential imprisonment after discovering a large sum of cash in a discarded chest of drawers. The owner of the furniture had mistakenly thrown the item away at a collection point, only to realize the next day that she had left her savings inside.

The amount involved is estimated to be more than 50,000 euros, which exceeds one million Czech koruna. Following the discovery, the owner contacted the police and hired a private detective agency to locate the missing items.

Police investigators utilized security camera footage and witness interviews to track the furniture, eventually locating it in an apartment in Szczecin. While the cash was successfully recovered and returned to the rightful owner, the individual who took the chest from the waste site is facing charges for misappropriation of found property. The suspect reportedly claimed she was initially unaware of the money but ultimately decided to keep it.
