Poland's 2027 budget draft features record deficit

The draft budget for 2027 has been submitted for social consultation, featuring a record deficit of 282 billion PLN. While the government has identified national defense, healthcare, and energy security as primary priorities, critics argue that the allocated funds do not align with these goals.

Specifically, the budget allocates 198.1 billion PLN (4.51% of GDP) to national defense, which represents a decrease of 0.5 percentage points of GDP compared to 2026. Healthcare funding is set at 274 billion PLN, roughly 7% of GDP, and energy security spending is projected to increase by only 1.5 billion PLN over 2026 levels. To finance the total expenditure of nearly 978 billion PLN against 695 billion PLN in revenue, the government will need to borrow approximately one-third of the required funds.
