Poland's 2026 Fruit and Vegetable Harvests Projected to Drop Nearly 20%

Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) estimates that total tree‑fruit harvests in 2026 will fall 18.6% to about 3.4 million tonnes, with apples alone down 19.5% to roughly 3.1 million tonnes. Pears, cherries, plums and other stone fruits are also expected to shrink by 10‑15%, while berry production on orchards and plantations is projected 6.5% lower at 458 000 tonnes. Specific losses include strawberries (-6.2% to 141 200 t), raspberries (-23% to ~60 900 t) and a 4.4% rise in currant output.

The GUS report attributes the declines to adverse weather: spring frosts, a deficit of rainfall and June heat waves that stressed crops and reduced yields. Similar climate pressures are evident in sugar beet trials by Südzucker Polska, where average root mass in July 2026 was 456 g, 71 g lighter than the previous year, reflecting the impact of early‑season drought and later heat.

Agricultural equipment sales also show a slowdown. New tractor registrations in July 2026 fell 9.8% from June and 25.9% year‑on‑year, with 766 units recorded, indicating reduced investment amid the broader production challenges.
