Poland's Bailiff Enforcement Limits Tightened by Minimum Wage Rise

An increase in Poland's minimum wage has raised the exemption threshold for wage garnishment, limiting the amount that bailiffs can seize. The exemption now equals the net minimum wage of 3,604.50 zł, and the 75 % and 90 % limits have risen to 2,704.39 zł and 3,245.27 zł respectively. Certain benefits, such as the 800 plus program, targeted allowances, alimony and housing subsidies, remain protected from seizure.

The changes mean debtors retain a larger share of their income, while creditors face longer recovery times. Bailiff representatives warn that slower collections may affect the profession’s attractiveness, noting a modest number of new bailiff exam candidates and an aging workforce. The reforms aim to improve financial security for low‑income earners while balancing creditor interests.
