Poland's Bieszczady Forests Mark Start of Mushroom Season

Recent rains have increased soil moisture in the Bieszczady mountains, prompting the Ustrzyki Dolne forest district to announce the opening of the summer mushroom season. Forest officials reported the first large boletes (borowiki) and gave advice to hunters to scan the ground beneath young spruces and firs, while urging them to avoid trampling young trees to protect forest regeneration.

At the same time, a social‑media post by the user "Grzybiarz w lesie" showed three baskets brimming with boletes, chanterelles and other common Polish forest mushrooms from Wielkopolska. The images attracted hundreds of comments, with many praising the haul and others questioning its authenticity, suggesting the mushrooms might have been collected over several days or staged. The post has further sparked interest in the newly beginning mushroom‑foraging season across Poland.
