Poland's doctors' union chief criticises government over health reforms

Łukasz Jankowski, president of the Polish National Medical Chamber (NIL), posted a confidential message on the X platform outlining a deepening conflict with the government. He claimed the authorities have run a year‑long campaign that damages doctors' reputation and leads to attacks on medical staff, describing the situation as a “double‑strength” backlash. Jankowski warned that the health system faces an “armageddon” in the autumn due to insufficient funding and criticised the government's proposed reforms, including a salary‑transparency law linking doctors’ earnings to personal identification numbers. He argued that the government's limited proposals amount to a “privatization‑plus” package that will worsen the crisis. The NIL chief also suggested that the ruling parties use media narratives to portray doctors as villains, thereby deflecting responsibility for systemic problems onto medical professionals.
