Poland's Donald Tusk reports record monthly Ukrainian casualties

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has revealed that the Ukrainian military is currently sustaining record losses, with approximately 27,000 soldiers killed or wounded each month. Speaking before the Sejm, Tusk noted that these figures were provided by Ukrainian officials and warned that such high attrition rates, combined with a difficult winter and increased Russian technological capabilities like drones, could lead to a disastrous situation.

These reported figures contrast with previous statements from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who in July estimated total casualties at roughly 450,000. The discrepancy highlights a significant gap between official Kyiv communications and the figures shared with international partners.

In addition to personnel losses, Ukraine faces severe economic strain. Reports indicate fiscal losses exceeded $300 million in August alone, and the country is grappling with a $27 billion deficit in its defense budget. Former presidential spokesperson Yulia Mendel has criticized the current military and political strategy, describing the continuation of the conflict under current conditions as a ‘national suicide’ due to the gap between international propaganda and domestic reality.
