Poland's Education Ministry plans new grading rules and free e‑Diary system for schools

The Ministry of National Education has drafted an amendment to the regulations on assessing, classifying and promoting students, slated to take effect on 1 September 2026. The proposal introduces mandatory stationary exams with defined minimum durations (30‑60 minutes depending on grade), bans the use of telecommunications devices during tests, and revises behavior assessment criteria to place greater weight on cooperation, social activity and personal responsibility. Homework remains optional, though schools may factor its regularity into final grades.

In a related move, the government approved a draft amendment to enable a pilot of a state‑run e‑Diary integrated with the Educational Information System (SIO), scheduled to begin in the 2026/27 school year. Participation will be voluntary and the service will be offered free of charge without advertising. According to the ministry, the e‑Diary will allow schools to use existing state registries, reducing duplicate data entry, and will support electronic class registers, teaching documentation and parental access via the mObywatel and mObywatel Junior apps. "Państwowy eDziennik będzie rozwiązaniem dobrowolnym," the ministry noted.
