Poland's electric vehicle sales and charging network fall behind EU average

In June, fully electric cars accounted for just 5.2% of new vehicle registrations in Poland, a decline from the previous year and far below the European Union average of 20.7%. Poland, together with Ireland, ranks among the lowest in the bloc, while countries such as Germany, France and Spain report growth rates of 75%‑100% year‑on‑year.

Poland’s charging infrastructure is expanding faster than the vehicle fleet, with roughly one public charger (AC or DC) for every 18 electric cars – a ratio that is more favorable than in France or Germany. The grid can handle the load, but the main obstacle is the lengthy and unpredictable connection process, which can take up to 18 months from contract signing to operational status. Experts note that affordability, limited convenient charging locations and slow market uptake are the key factors behind the lag.
