Poland's farms adopt automation and new seed varieties to boost productivity

Polish broiler farms now rely on fully automated systems that control feeding, watering, ventilation, heating, and LED lighting. Sensors monitor temperature, humidity and CO₂ levels, while computer‑managed ventilation and cooling (including misting and pad‑cooling) maintain optimal microclimates. The farms also implement strict biosecurity measures such as protective clothing, foot mats and regular disinfection to minimise disease risk.

During June, a series of field days across Poland showcased new crop varieties aimed at coping with drought and improving yields. Highlights included the winter wheat RGT Intakt, noted for high yield potential, good grain quality and winter hardiness, as well as several rapeseed, barley and rye cultivars offering strong disease resistance and high protein content. Experts stressed the importance of qualified seed material—currently used on only about one‑fifth of Poland’s arable land—to ensure healthy, well‑spaced crops and to build resilience against adverse weather conditions.

Together, the advances in poultry farm automation and the introduction of improved seed varieties reflect a broader push in Polish agriculture to increase efficiency, productivity and sustainability.
