Poland's gas tariffs likely to remain stable through 2024

Polish experts say that short‑term fluctuations on international gas markets are unlikely to lead to a sharp rise in household gas tariffs. The country's storage facilities are more than 80% full, providing a safety buffer, and the state‑controlled retailer Orlen is expected to post a strong financial year, reducing incentives to request higher rates. The Energy Regulatory Office (URE) bases tariff approvals on actual fuel‑cost calculations, long‑term contracts and hedging activities that dampen the impact of spot‑market price spikes. While geopolitical tensions, such as those involving Iran, are monitored, analysts argue that these factors will have only a limited effect on next year’s tariffs. Political considerations, including upcoming elections, may influence the regulator but are not expected to cause major price changes.
