Poland's GAZ‑SYSTEM starts biometan market study and IPPG plan

Gaz‑System, the operator of Poland’s national gas transmission network, announced a market study to accelerate the integration of biometan into the gas system. The survey, scheduled for mid‑2025, will assess production capacity – estimated at about 0.5 billion m³ annually by 2035 – against projected demand of 4.6 billion m³ in 2026 rising to nearly 7 billion m³ by 2035.

The study also evaluates collective gas‑fuel loading stations (IPPG) as an alternative to costly long pipelines. Five potential sites were proposed, with the municipalities of Krobia, Pełczyce and Rogoźno receiving the strongest interest. Participants indicated that 19 entities could inject up to 63 million m³ of biometan per year at these locations, while the total capacity of all five sites could reach 70 million m³, and additional points could handle up to 250 million m³ annually. Over 31 firms have already signaled involvement in 141 biometan projects, mainly in the Greater Poland and Masovian regions. Gaz‑System aims to remove legislative and financial barriers and to promote a dispersed, cost‑effective network for biometan delivery.
