Poland's GUS identifies top occupations: shop clerks, truck drivers, warehouse staff

The Central Statistical Office (GUS) released its report "Diversity of occupations on the Polish labour market" at the VI Congress of Polish Statistics. The data cover 14.1 million employees in the national economy and 1.4 million people on civil‑contract work as of 31 December 2024, split into 443 occupational groups.

Four occupations – shop salespeople and cashiers, truck drivers, warehouse workers and primary‑school teachers – together account for 13.5 % of all jobs, making them the most common nationwide. The report highlights pronounced gender patterns: the most feminised occupations are midwives, early‑childhood educators and dental assistants, while the most masculinised are miners, bricklayers, agricultural‑machine operators and roofers.

Foreign‑born workers represent a significant share of the labour force; 70 % are Ukrainians, followed by Belarusians, Indians and Georgians. Among foreigners, truck driving is the leading occupation (12.6 %), followed by warehousing (4.5 %) and app programming (3.1 %). Women among foreign workers are most often employed as shop saleswomen, warehouse staff and cleaners.
