Poland's GUS reports lower 2026 grain harvest and rising average wages

Poland's Central Statistical Office (GUS) issued a preliminary estimate that total grain harvests for 2026 will be about 4.9% lower than the previous year, amounting to roughly 25.3 million tonnes. The decline is attributed to harsh winter conditions, spring frosts, water shortages and extreme weather such as heatwaves and hail. The cultivated area for basic grain crops is projected to shrink slightly, by about 0.1% to 5.5 million hectares.

In a separate release, GUS reported that the average gross monthly wage in the enterprise sector reached 9,401.58 zł in June 2026, a 5.9% increase over the same month in 2025 and 2.5% higher than May 2026. The rise reflects additional payments such as bonuses, awards and annual recognitions, and it outpaced the 2.5% year‑on‑year consumer price inflation recorded the previous month.
