Poland's heavy rainstorms flood roads and threaten infrastructure

Intense July rainfalls swept across many regions of Poland, including the Opole area, overwhelming drainage systems, flooding roads, private properties and public facilities. The excess water accelerated surface runoff on sloped agricultural fields, causing soil erosion, loss of fertile topsoil and reduced water‑holding capacity, a concern for farmers of all farm sizes.

A powerful storm later hit Warsaw and the surrounding Mazovia region, bringing heavy rain, frequent lightning, hail and strong winds. The downpour reduced visibility, made roads slippery and caused localized flooding. One aircraft was diverted to Poznań due to the weather. Authorities urged residents to stay indoors, secure balcony items and avoid open spaces until the storm passes.
