Poland's Integrated Railway Network targets faster travel across the country by 2050

Poland is advancing a nationwide railway modernization programme called the Integrated Railway Network (Zintegrowana Sieć Kolejowa). The plan, overseen by Centralny Port Komunikacyjny and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, will combine new high‑speed lines with upgrades to existing tracks. By 2050, 4,700 km of new railway, including 2,700 km dedicated to high‑speed services at up to 350 km/h, and modernization of 5,600 km of current lines are slated, backed by roughly 100 billion PLN in funding.

The project aims to link every Polish county to long‑distance services, introduce concepts such as “Poland 100 minutes” and “Poland in 3 hours,” and drastically cut journey times. Expected travel times after completion include Warsaw‑Ostrowiec at about 1 h 40 min, Warsaw‑Sandomierz at roughly 2 h 10 min, and faster connections between the south‑eastern cities of Rzeszów, Mielec, Tarnobrzeg and Kraków, with onward links toward Katowice, Wrocław, Lublin and Zamość. Passenger forecasts anticipate over 500 million rail users within a decade.
