Poland's Jeziorko Czerniakowskie and Vistula River face water depletion threats

Researchers, NGOs and local activists have warned that Jeziorko Czerniakowskie in Warsaw is rapidly losing water and becoming overgrown. A letter signed by 29 scientists and more than 30 environmental organisations was sent to the city mayor demanding that the lake be refilled from an external source. Warsaw officials said they will commission expert studies to assess possible solutions.

In the Vistula River near Kozienice, a five‑year research programme examined how energy‑sector water use, climate change, invasive species and other factors interact to affect the river ecosystem. Scientists, including Prof. Piotr Parasiewicz, cautioned that simplistic assessments of damage based solely on fish larval mortality are premature and called for a holistic, site‑specific evaluation of environmental impacts.
