Poland's Konotopiu to unveil Europe's tallest Marian statue

Construction of a new Marian monument in the village of Konotopiu, Kuyavian‑Pomeranian Voivodeship, is nearing completion. The statue will stand over 55 metres tall – a 40.6‑metre figure topped by a 15‑metre crown that will serve as a viewing terrace – making it the highest Marian figure in Europe. The unveiling is scheduled for 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption, and is funded by billionaire Roman Karkosik and his wife, with an estimated cost of about 100 million złoty and a projected lifespan of at least 300 years. Around the monument, parking, green spaces and a fountain are being built, and the site has already begun drawing visitors who expect it to become a major pilgrimage and tourist destination.
