Poland's labour market sees rising job‑insecurity and low satisfaction among older workers

A Gi Group "Barometer of the labour market 2026" finds that 33.3% of employed Poles now fear losing their jobs, up from 26% a few years ago, while the share feeling secure fell to 50.7% from 55% last year. Among those worried about job loss, 66% are considering a career change or retraining.

The SHARE study of workers aged 50+ shows only 14% of Polish respondents are satisfied with their jobs. Around 80% report limited satisfaction, with high levels of physical fatigue (38%) and overall dissatisfaction (27%). Satisfaction rates are far below the European average – 42% in Switzerland and the highest levels in Scandinavian nations. Researchers warn that low satisfaction among older workers could hinder future labour‑force participation as Poland faces demographic ageing.

Both reports highlight the need for policy adjustments and employer strategies to address growing uncertainty and to keep older employees engaged in the labour market.
