Poland's Local‑Content Drive Targets Automotive and Construction Industries
A study commissioned by the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) and carried out by Roland Berger found that the European automotive supply chain already meets the European Commission’s proposed 70% local‑content threshold for vehicle components, with 89% of plug‑in hybrid and 83% of battery‑electric parts produced in Europe. The report warns, however, that manufacturing costs in Europe remain 15–35% higher than in competing regions, posing a risk of up to 350,000 jobs being lost by 2030 without supportive measures.
In parallel, the Polish government has launched a "Local Content. Z korzyścią dla Polski" initiative, reinforced by a June code of good practice signed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The programme aims to increase the share of domestic firms in large infrastructure projects, especially those undertaken by state‑owned companies, by ensuring fair tender specifications and reducing dependence on foreign supply chains. Industry leaders stress the need for equal competition and professional procurement to strengthen the national economy.
Both efforts reflect a broader push to bolster domestic production, safeguard employment, and improve the competitiveness of European and Polish industries under the EU’s Industrial Accelerator Act.
