Poland's Medical Research Agency funds pharmaceutical drug development

The Medical Research Agency (ABM) has recommended funding for six pharmaceutical projects in Poland, totaling approximately 77 million PLN. The initiative aims to develop cheaper alternatives to existing therapies and enhance domestic drug production capabilities and supply security.

Key projects include Polpharma's work on a generic GLP-1 drug for obesity treatment and Adamed Pharma's development of multi-component tablets or inhalers for asthma and lipid disorders. Celon Pharma is focusing on biosimilar antibodies for oncology and autoimmune diseases, while Synektik Pharma is developing a radiopharmaceutical for PET diagnostics.

In a related development, Celon Pharma has applied for marketing authorization for Reduzek, a semaglutide-based injectable, in several EU countries including Germany and Austria. Clinical studies in Canada demonstrated the drug's bioequivalence to Ozempic and Wegovy at a 0.5 mg dose. The company plans to begin sales in selected markets by 2028 and is expanding its production facility in Slovakia with potential financing of up to 23 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
