Poland's Ministry of Energy marks first year of operations

The Polish Ministry of Energy has completed its first year of operation since its establishment on August 21, 2025. During this period, the ministry has focused on implementing significant energy law reforms, finalizing the National Energy and Climate Plan (KPEiK), and concluding negotiations with the European Commission regarding nuclear power plants.

Key achievements include the finalization of the network law aimed at increasing connection capacities and the implementation of various consumer protection measures. These measures include the 'CPN' fuel protection program, which reportedly lowered fuel prices by approximately 20 percent during certain periods, and the introduction of a heating voucher for vulnerable households. The 2026 energy tariff has been set at 495.16 PLN/MWh.

Despite these developments, the ministry has faced challenges related to organizational restructuring. Operating across multiple locations in Katowice and Warsaw has raised concerns regarding decision-making efficiency. While some experts note that the ministry has successfully centralized energy-related tasks, others point to a lack of decisive intervention regarding high energy costs for industry and the future of the mining sector.
