Poland's Ministry of Health pledges no closures for county hospitals
During the County Hospital Summit in Warsaw, Deputy Health Minister Tomasz Maciejewski assured that the Ministry of Health does not intend to close any county hospitals. Instead, the ministry aims to adapt these facilities to current demographic and epidemiological requirements, with a focus on developing day-care services and improving care for the elderly.
To support the healthcare system, the government has announced a budget allocation of 274 billion PLN for the upcoming year. However, representatives from the Association of Polish Counties and hospital employer unions expressed concerns regarding financial stability. Andrzej Płonka, president of the Association of Polish Counties, argued that local governments should not be held responsible for central decisions regarding health insurance rates and medical service valuations.
In the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region, proposals are being discussed to consolidate the Inowrocław hospital with facilities in Bydgoszcz and Grudziądz. This merger could potentially secure 70 million PLN for modernization through Ministry of Health funds, aiming to improve financial stability and patient access to specialists.
