Poland's Ministry of National Education rejects staggered summer holidays

The Polish Ministry of National Education has rejected a proposal to introduce staggered summer holiday schedules for different voivodeships. The suggestion, raised via an interpelation by MP Piotr Uruski, aimed to divide summer breaks into multiple turns similar to the current winter break system.

Uruski argued that the current unified schedule leads to a massive accumulation of tourist traffic, increased road congestion, overloaded infrastructure, and significant price hikes for accommodation and services during peak season. He suggested that staggered holidays could extend the tourism season, increase industry revenue, and improve road safety.

In response, Deputy Minister of Education Katarzyna Lubnauer stated that the Ministry does not plan to change the current model. She noted that the school year organization is strictly tied to national external examinations—such as eighth-grade, matura, and vocational exams—as well as the recruitment processes that rely on those results.
