Poland's mObywatel app adds PESEL blocking and ePayment features

The Polish Ministry of Digitisation advises citizens to activate the PESEL‑blocking option in the mObywatel mobile app before travel. The feature can be turned on or off instantly, prevents banks and other institutions from issuing loans or credit using a blocked PESEL, and does not affect the validity of identity documents or everyday services such as medical appointments.

The same app also offers ePayments, allowing users to settle municipal taxes, fees and other obligations directly from their smartphones via BLIK, Apple Pay, Google Pay or card payments. Over 1.41 million ePayment transactions worth more than 133 million zł have been processed, serving roughly 12.1 million Polish residents and adopted by hundreds of local authorities, from large cities like Warsaw and Gdańsk to small towns such as Siechnice and Cybinka.
