Poland's mObywatel app users must log in by 5 August 2026 to keep digital documents active
The Polish Ministry of Digitalisation has announced that users of the mObywatel mobile application must log in no later than 5 August 2026. The login triggers an automatic renewal of security certificates for all digital documents stored in the app, including the electronic ID (mDowód), temporary protection documents, school and student IDs, driving licences and other entitlement cards.
If a user does not log in before the deadline, the certificates for some documents will expire. Affected users will then need to reactivate the documents manually, using an e‑ID, a trusted profile, or online banking authentication. The renewal process does not require any additional software download; it runs in the background once the user logs in.
The app currently serves roughly 12 million Polish citizens, with about 1.5 million logins recorded each day. The update is described as a routine, standard security measure by the Ministry.
