Poland's National Health Fund raises reimbursement for imaging tests and launches free mammography buses
The Polish National Health Fund (NFZ) has proposed regulatory changes that will increase payment rates for diagnostic imaging performed beyond contract limits. Starting 1 April 2026, correction coefficients of 0.5 will apply to CT scans and MRIs, and 0.6 to gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures, except when the tests are part of oncological treatment or follow‑up care. The draft, open for public comment until 16 June 2026, aims to improve access to advanced diagnostics.
In parallel, NFZ‑funded free mammography services are being extended via mobile units. A mammography bus arrived in Siemianowice Śląskie on 11 June, offering breast‑cancer screening at no cost to women aged 45‑74, without requiring a referral. Health officials cite a 25‑30 % reduction in mortality for regular participants and seek to increase uptake, which currently stands at roughly one‑third of eligible women.
Both measures are part of broader efforts to enhance diagnostic availability and early cancer detection within Poland’s public health system.
