Poland's New 55.6‑Metre Our Lady of Sorrows Monument Near Toruń

Holcim Poland supplied about 2,500 m³ of its Artevia Kolor decorative concrete for the construction of a monumental Our Lady of Sorrows statue in Konotopiu, near Toruń. The monument will reach a total height of 55.6 metres, with the figure of the Virgin exceeding 40 metres and a 15‑metre crown‑shaped base that will include a public viewing terrace.

The project, which began in 2025 and is slated for completion in August 2026, is intended to become one of the tallest sacred monuments in Europe, surpassing the 38.5‑metre Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. Daniel Cekała, General Director of Concrete and Prefabrication at Holcim Poland, said the Artevia Kolor mix provides a durable, uniform colour and high resistance to weather, essential for a structure of this scale and exposure.
