Poland's ORLEN installs 50 of 76 turbines at Baltic Power offshore wind farm

Polish energy group ORLEN, in partnership with Northland Power, has installed 50 of the 76 turbines planned for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The project, located about 23 km off the coast near Choczewo and Łeba, is entering its final stage with ongoing infrastructure tests before connection to the national grid.

When completed, the farm will have a capacity of roughly 1.2 GW and generate up to 4 TWh of electricity annually—about 3 % of Poland’s current power demand. The turbines are 15 MW Vestas units, among the world’s first of this size, each standing over 250 m tall and built largely with recycled steel, which reduces the turbine’s life‑cycle carbon footprint by about 10 %. All 78 foundations and related offshore and on‑shore substations are already in place, and a service base is ready for operation.

ORLEN executives highlighted the project as a landmark investment for Poland’s energy security and a key step in the country’s transition to renewable sources, positioning the firm as a major player in Central Europe’s green energy transformation.
