Poland's President criticizes attacks on Constitutional Tribunal

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Constitutional Tribunal, an international conference titled ‘Natural Law Foundations of the Constitutional Order’ was held in Warsaw. During the event, a letter from President Karol Nawrocki was read by Zbigniew Bogucki, Head of the Presidential Chancellery.

In the letter, President Nawrocki emphasized the importance of the Tribunal in protecting the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law. However, he expressed strong opposition to actions aimed at undermining the institution's constitutional position, specifically citing the public discredit of the Tribunal by executive branch representatives and the failure to publish its rulings since December 13, 2023. He stated that such actions are unacceptable in a democratic state and argued that the Tribunal must serve the Republic rather than a single political party or parliamentary majority.

Dr. hab. Karol Polejowski, Deputy President of the IPN, delivered the introductory lecture, tracing the historical roots of constitutional control in Poland. He highlighted the role of the Solidarity movement in the struggle for judicial independence and the principle that human dignity and rights are inherent and not granted by the state.
