Poland’s Rabka Wyżna and Bojanów hold WWII remembrance ceremonies

In Rabka Wyżna, a delegation of the local primary school took part in a patriotic ceremony at the parish cemetery on 19 June 2026 to honor Anton Jurczak, a resident who died in the first days of September 1939. Deputy Mayor Mieczysław Kurek, Adam Sawina and a family member of Jurczak attended; a lecture recounted early war events in the area and Jurczak’s sacrifice, and flowers were laid at his memorial.

In Bojanów, on 23 June, a commemorative event marked the nuns imprisoned in the German Nonnenlager‑Smuckert camp during World War II. Bishop Grzegorz Balcerek celebrated Mass, local officials delivered speeches, and newly restored war‑grave monuments funded by the Poznań Voivodeship Office were dedicated. Seventh‑grade students participated, and the ceremony also remembered the long‑serving parish priest Zygmunt Pilawski, who protected the nuns during the occupation.
