Poland's RCB apologizes for emergency alert error

The Government Security Center (RCB) issued an apology following a technical error during the dispatch of an emergency alert. The message, which warned of a Russian aerial attack on Ukrainian territory, was intended for residents of the Lubelskie Voivodeship but was mistakenly sent to recipients in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, located at the opposite end of Poland.

The error caused significant concern among residents in western Poland, potentially prompting unnecessary protective actions. RCB acknowledged the mistake, stating that the alert is a critical signal for life-saving actions and expressing regret for the anxiety and inconvenience caused.

In response to heightened Russian activity in Ukraine, the Polish military has also implemented preventive measures. This includes the operation of military aircraft in Polish airspace and the activation of air defense systems to secure the border regions. Additionally, civil aviation has seen temporary airspace closures over certain airports, such as Lublin and Rzeszów-Jasionka, to ensure operational freedom for military assets.
