Poland's Sejm rejects proposal for extra holiday on November 2

The petition, submitted by the 'Można Lepiej' Foundation, sought to remove the exclusion in Article 130, paragraph 2 of the Labor Code regarding Sundays. This change would have ensured that any statutory holiday, even if it falls on a Sunday, would reduce the working time by eight hours, effectively making the following Monday, November 2 (All Souls' Day), a day off.
The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy opposed the amendment, arguing that it would lead to a reduction in the average total working time. The committee accepted the Ministry's reasoning, meaning November 2, 2026, will remain a regular working day for most employees.
