Poland's Sikorski alleges evidence of Russian support for Orbán government

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has alleged that Moscow provides support to the Hungarian government under Viktor Orbán. In an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza, Sikorski claimed to possess evidence of this cooperation in the form of financial transfers and recordings.

Sikorski specifically criticized Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó’s interactions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, describing Szijjártó’s demeanor as that of a “subcontractor” or a “schoolboy” when speaking to Lavrov. The allegations follow previous leaks of phone conversations between Szijjártó and Lavrov, which some have characterized as foreign intelligence interference in Hungarian politics.

While the specific nature of the alleged financial transactions remains unclear, Sikorski’s comments suggest the existence of documentation beyond the previously leaked audio recordings. The claims have drawn international attention, with references to the leaked materials even inspiring a theatrical production in Estonia.
