Poland's strawberry sellers adopt 24‑hour vending machines as prices spark debate
Polish farmers are increasingly using automated vending machines, known as "truskawkomaty," to sell fresh strawberries directly to consumers around the clock. The machines, now installed in locations such as Warsaw's Wola Park, Blue City and other cities, allow growers to control pricing and reduce reliance on intermediaries. Prices for strawberries sold through the machines are about 21 zł per kilogram, which many customers find attractive given the fruit’s freshness.
At the traditional market on the Broniszach field, producers report a clash between buyers' expectations for high‑quality berries at roughly 17 zł per unit and the higher prices farmers receive, with recent sales reaching 24 zł per crate. The tension reflects broader pressure on Polish strawberry growers to balance quality, supply, and profitability while exploring new sales channels such as the 24‑hour vending machines.
