Poland's technical universities report record enrollment demand

The Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna (WAT) received more than 10,000 applications for 1,280 officer‑training places for the 2026/2027 academic year, marking a 30‑40% increase over the previous year and the highest number of candidates in its history. Applicants were evaluated on academic results, physical fitness, English proficiency and medical examinations.

At Politechnika Łódzka, about 80% of first‑degree study places were already filled, with 11,600 applications – a 26% rise compared with the prior year. The most popular programmes were English‑taught Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology, while Polish‑language programmes such as Automation and Robotics also attracted many candidates. The university plans a supplementary recruitment round in September.

Both institutions attribute the surge to a growing interest among young people in technical and modern‑technology fields, reflecting broader trends in Polish higher education.
