Poland's Łukasiewicz Institute opens modernised aerodynamic tunnel at Warsaw Okęcie
A modernised aerodynamic tunnel (T‑3) has been opened at the Łukasiewicz Institute’s research centre in Warsaw’s Okęcie district. The renovation cost 105 million zł and was financed from the National Recovery Plan (Krajowy Plan Odbudowy). The facility is run by the Centre for Research‑Development of Innovative Propulsion and Aircraft Structures (CeBRINS) within the Łukasiewicz Research Network.
Minister of Science and Higher Education Marcin Kulasek said the investment will strengthen Poland’s competitiveness in aerospace, space and defence technologies and reduce reliance on foreign testing infrastructure. The tunnel will support projects funded by the European Defence Fund and the European Space Agency, and a contract is being finalised with a leading European aircraft‑engine producer for a research campaign.
Technical features include a five‑metre airflow diameter, a new nozzle and safety screen, and a raised platform capable of bearing up to 20 tonnes. The centre expects the infrastructure to spur R&D, create high‑skill jobs and boost the domestic aerospace and new‑space sectors.
