Poland's ZUS reports record pensions and higher mining retirement benefits

Data from the Lower Silesian branch of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) show that a senior who paid contributions for 62 years now receives a pension of 35,876 zł per month, more than six times the regional average of 4,491 zł. The highest pension recorded in the region is 37,214 zł per month, earned by a worker who contributed for 55 years and began drawing benefits at age 78.

Separate ZUS statistics indicate that the average pension for former miners in 2025 was 7,693 zł gross per month, also above the national average of roughly 4,200 zł. Experts noted that while mining pensions exceed the overall average, they are still considered insufficient given the hazardous nature of underground work and disparities with supervisory staff.
